## Add Projects

If the term ‘Project’ doesn’t fit your business, you can choose a different term by clicking on your initials at the top right, and then the Settings & Preferences gear icon. Under the **Account Preferences** tab, scroll down to the **Naming** section. Other options include ‘Account', ‘Customer,' or ‘Phase.’

#### To Add a New Project

1. Go to **Projects > Manage** in the left menu.
2. Click on the **Add Project** button to open the Project modal.
3. Select a client from the Client drop-down menu to add this new project to. You can add new Clients to FunctionFox through the Clients > Manage page, or by clicking the word **Client** above the Client filter on the Projects page.
4. The **Project Code** is generated automatically but can be overridden if needed. Every project must have a Project Code, and each Project Code must be unique. You can customize your Project Codes per project by setting your Project Sequence under **Settings & Preferences > Account Preferences**, or by activating Client Sequencing (see the **Client Sequencing** section on the [Add Clients](https://functionfox.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/GS/pages/39322647) page).
5. Enter in the **Project Name**.
6. Add your project details to the **Scope/Description** field.
7. Assign a **Project Manager** to the project. Project Managers can be added or removed from the drop-down menu through the Personnel > Manage page.
8. Choose a **Start Date** and **Due Date** for the project. If your project is ongoing, you can choose the ‘Ignore Due Date’ option. **Note:** You cannot track time against a project prior to the project Start Date. If you plan to start tracking time against your new project right away, we recommend setting the Start Date to today’s date or earlier.
9. Select a **Project Status**. By default, your account includes two project statuses ‘**Open'** (available for time tracking and editing) and ‘**Closed'** (not available for time tracking, but visible in reports). You can manage your status options by clicking on the word **Status** above the filter on the Projects page (common status examples include ‘On Hold’, 'Canceled’, or 'Ready to Bill’).
10. Choose your ‘Tasks From’ option:
  1. **All Tasks from Selected Rate Category**. This will apply all Tasks belonging to the rate category selected in the [Rate Category](https://support.functionfox.com/space/GS/39322546/Step+3:+Add+Tasks+&+Rate+Categories) drop-down menu (Common is the default category for all accounts).
  2. **Select specific Tasks from a Rate Category**. This will allow you to choose Tasks from the selected Rate Category, rather than apply all.
  3. **Copy Tasks from an open Project.** This allows you to copy over Tasks from an open Project to your new Project.
  4. **Use Project Template.** This will allow you to select and apply a Project Template to your new Project.

#### Optional Project Fields

Click on the Optional Fields filter at the top right of the Projects modal to view the optional fields when entering a project. Optional fields will show the assigned default (where applicable) if no other option is selected.

14. Depending on how you’ve chosen to apply your Tasks to the Project, you’ll see the option to **Save New**, or the option to **Select Tasks**. Click to finalize adding the Project.

Once your new project has been created, you will see it listed in the projects table at the bottom of the screen. If the project is in an open status, the start date has been reached, and tasks have been applied, you can start [Tracking Time](https://functionfox.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/GS/pages/39322850). **Note:** Click on the table settings (3 bars) to show/hide columns in the projects table such as Files, Expenses, Retainers, and the ability to Archive projects.
